In Houston, it is getting hot, and I like to stay indoor than venturing out these days. My daughter keeps asking me for a beach trip for a long time, which I haven’t done yet. May be this weekend I am not sure; we will see. She is an ultimate fan of strawberries like me, and she wants juice, and cupcakes with strawberries. My hubby makes limeade all the time in our home. So this time I told him to add little fresh strawberries to limeade. Thus we made this strawberry limeade.
I have seen strawberry limeade in the menu of Sonic. I don’t know why we didn’t stop at Sonic. Fresh strawberries are here in the store, also got 10 limes for a $1. I like to stock up lime or lemon in refrigerator to make limeade or lemonade. My hubby is diabetic so he makes limeade with little salt and water. Even The American Diabetes Association recommends adding lime juice to your water to provide a refreshing drink that won’t affect your blood sugar. For kids he adds little sugar, we don’t add to much sugar in our drinks, as we have diabetic gene. Limes are a healthy source of vitamin C, and while the juice from a quarter of a lime only has 3.3 milligrams of vitamin C, making a habit of drinking water with lime juice can boost your daily intake of this important vitamin. Adults should get between 75 and 90 milligrams of vitamin C per day; several glasses of water with lime juice can provide a significant percentage of this guideline. Also it reduces our risks of cancer, read more from here.
Strawberries, I am sure that everybody loves them. But I can bet however that most would not know about the health benefits of eating them, and would be amazed to find that they have lot health benefits too. It has red coloring pigment anthocyanins, which helps to burn stored fat as it stimulate the burning of stored fat, also help to boost short term memory. It is rich in fiber and less calories. Strawberries lower blood levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), a signal of inflammation in the body, read this study, women who ate 16 or more strawberries per week were 14 percent less likely to have elevated levels of CRP. They are also rich in flavonoids which are responsible for its color and flavor, that also known to lower the risk for heart disease. Strawberries contain potassium, vitamin K and magnesium which are important for bone health. Studies show freeze-dried strawberry powder may help prevent human esophageal cancer. Strawberries are filled with biotin, which helps build strong hair and nails. They also contain the antioxidant allergic acid, which protects the elastic fibers in our skin to prevent sagging. The compound nitrate found promotes blood flow and oxygen in our body, which is great for weight loss. Eating three or more servings of fruit like strawberries may lower the risk of macular degeneration, a condition resulting in vision loss. Read more from here .
This recipe is really skinny, as it has only ¼ teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of sugar to make two serving of drink. You can increase the amount of sugar then it won’t become skinny version. Only thing you make sure to find some sweet fresh strawberries. Wash and hull and make a puree with it and then add a 1 tablespoon of puree for each cup of water. Very refreshing drink you can serve with or without sugar. It is tangy sweet combination will linger in your taste buds for few minutes even after drinking it.
Try it for sure, if you want to give it to kids increase the amount of sugar. This is most colorful limeade I have ever head, and enjoyed very much.

Sounds delicious Swathi! I’m a big fan of limeade. Your husband’s addition of salt to limeade reminds me of how my grandma makes her lemonade…I think the balance of a little salt with the sweet and sour of the drink makes for a great balance. Stay cool in the summer heat!
