February is here meaning it is time for Valentine’s day and love is in the air. Do you have any plan for Valentine’s day, usually I cook some delicious dinner at home and enjoy with my hubby. We don’t go out as much, as my hubby can’t eat everything, he is diabetic. So, I made this Midnight chocolate mousse. This is simple and delicious recipe without any egg or refined sugar. Yes, made with nature’s sweetener’s dates and honey.
Still you won’t miss any creaminess from the eggs, as it has avocado and coconut milk, both will take care of creaminess department. Sweetness is from dates and honey. If you want your mousse to be extra sweet increase the amount of honey or dates.
I haven’t made chocolate mousse for long time because I don’t want too much eggy taste. Yes, I love eggs some not a fan of eggy smell and taste. So, when I saw this recipe, I decide to give it a try because it has my favorite coconut milk. I also wanted to use coconut extract which I had bought for making coconut cake. I was born and brought up in a place where coconut is abundant, we use it for everything. Starting from breakfast to dinner everything will have some coconut. So, I really miss that coconut smell here, even if it is a virgin coconut oil it doesn’t have the pungent coconut smell that I used to have it in my hometown coconut oil.
My grandma used to make fresh coconut oil from the dried coconut. Beauty of this recipe is it has intense chocolate flavor even without eggs and subtle sweetness. If you are looking for less carb recipe then give this one a try. You can play with your sweetener too.

Delicious chocolate mousse with intense chocolate flavor even without eggs and subtle sweetness.
- 1/2 avocado pitted
- 4 Medjool dates pitted
- 1 ½ tablespoon honey
- ½ cup canned coconut milk
- ¼ cup cocoa powder
- ¼ teaspoon espresso powder
- ¼ teaspoon coconut extract
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- ½ tablespoon vanilla extract
- Few berries mint for decoration
In a food processor or blender process, avocado, dates, honey and coconut milk. To this add rest of ingredients and mix well.
Transfer to kitchen aid bowl and beat well for 4-5 minutes until everything becomes creamy and fluffy.
Transfer to serving bowl with berries and mint and chill for 4-6 hours and enjoy.
