Father’s Day is on this Sunday. Kids are excited and they have already selected the card for my hubby who is a great father. For me it is a sad note as I lost my father last year. Even though he is not with me, but his memories will be with me always. I and hubby love margaritas especially those fruity ones. It’s Friday, and we both deserve a Blackberry Margarita! This has a spicy kick from the chili syrup. It’s that kind of week and that kind of weekend.
I like to make my margaritas from the scratch without any pre-mixed drinks. I like to add Triple-Sec in my margarita recipe, if you want to make it skinny, then replace it with orange juice. Always I try to make with just fruit juice for the margarita, this time I decide to make it a Blackberry shrub margarita. This homemade blackberry shrub is the perfect balance to the heat from a cayenne-chili syrup. In true margarita fashion, a touch of citrus from fresh lime juice and tequila make this cocktail a perfection, rain or shine. Perfectly pairs well with summer nights and outdoor patios.
This recipe is inspired form Skyline margarita. I wanted to make a fruit shrub for a long time. Shrub is not the bush in front of your lawn, but a fruit syrup preserved with vinegar and mixed with water or alcohol to make a tangy, refreshing beverage. The result is a sweet, acidic mixer that can be enjoyed on its own or used in a variety of mixed drinks. Often mixed with herbs and spices and used to created interesting flavor combinations. The old-fashioned favorite shrub has steadily made a comeback in the last several years, especially on cocktail menus but they aren’t solely the province of mixologists.
I did make a mocktail with it and it is easy and delicious on its own. I love blackberry in my drinks because it gives beautiful color after blueberry and strawberry.
First make blackberry shrub, then chili syrup. I used only cayenne pepper, but if you want you can add some fresh chili pepper to make it hotter. Then rim is dusted with a chili-salt-sugar mix. At first, I was planning to use tajin, but changed my mind and used my own mix for the rim.
Then comes the best part, mix in with tequila and Triple Sec and fresh lime juice and star of the cocktail blackberry shrub and chili syrup and serve with ice. After drinking a sip, I decide to pat my back saying that you did wonderful job.
Get ready you are going to see more berry shrub recipes in the future, I am planning to make raspberry shrub too. Since fruity shrubs becomes my new favorite. Here is the delicious blackberry margarita.

I have never had one. I can't drink. Just a few sips of anything and I'm a wobbly mess. I love the idea of a cayenne sugar rim though. Yum.
