Little bit history of Cosmopolitan Cocktail
Cosmopolitan Cocktail or Cosmo was created by a bartender Neal Murray in 1975 at the Cork & Cleaver steak house in Minneapolis. He created this new cocktail by adding a splash of cranberry juice to Kamikaze Cocktail, which is made of equal parts vodka, triple sec, and lime juice. Garnish is typically a wedge or twist of lime. This was the drink of choice in the amazingly popular HBO show “Sex and the City”? Basically, it is considered as Girls day out cocktail because of its pink hue from cranberry juice.
Cosmopolitan cocktail is version of martinis, so it is strong, but addition of lime juice, cranberry juice and triple Sec along with vodka make it smooth and quite tasty
How a cosmopolitan cocktail taste?
Fresh Lime juice adds a sour flavor that sets the tone for the drink. The Triple sec adds a layer of sweetness and refreshing orange flavor. The cranberry juice gives the cosmopolitan its signature pink hue and adds tartness to the mix. All the flavors get a lift from Vodka.
Normally Citron vodka is used however I have used simple vodka.
Is Triple sec and Cointreau being interchangeable?
Yes, Cointreau is a top-shelf orange liqueur. It is a triple sec style of alcohol, although it is not labeled as one. Grand Marnier is another heavyweight in the triple sec category.
Triple sec, a liqueur made from the skins of oranges with alcohol content range from 15% to 30%, depending on the brand. Cointreau, a proprietary orange liqueur made from sweet and bitter orange skins, is stronger at 40%.
What are the ingredients of Cosmopolitan Cocktail?
You need 4 simple ingredients in this cosmo!
Cranberry Juice: Use a cranberry juice that is sweet. You can use unsweetened too if you want. You can use cranberry -pomegranate juice too
Lime Juice: Always use freshly squeezed.
Vodka: I used plain one you can use Citron Vodka too
Triple sec: You can also try it with Cointreau too. You can play with your favorite orange liquor and try to give a personal touch to it.
Best part is that it is a simple drink, just add everything into a shaker and shake well strain it into glass. Usually, Martini glass is used. However, I used Coupe glass which looks good in photos. It is typically garnished with an orange peel. I used lime peel. If you want, you can slightly burn the orange peel or lemon peel to squeeze out oil from it and rub it into the rim of glass.

This recipe brought back fun memories of girl's nights out! I was never brave enough to make something like this at home, but this made the "fancy" drink so accessible.
