Delicious lychee lemonade made with fresh lychees and lemon juice
We love lychee, and whenever this fresh fruit available in the store we buy it. My princess also likes it very much. I won’t buy any canned ones which are usually drenched in sweet syrup and also lack the fresh fruit smell. You know sweet is deadly things in our house.
We eat them fresh, and it will finish in a day or so. It is very expensive fruit, so whenever I see the price, my heart will be beating and I will think I don’t want to buy. Fiesta store guys always keep it in front aisle and you see it as soon as you enter the store. Then hubby will say what are you thinking; do you want to buy it? I will tell him it is really expensive, and he will tell me if you want to eat it, then don’t worry about the price; otherwise leave it. Finally I will buy them and this story continues almost every weekend.
Do you know, lycheeis the only member of soapberry family. It has a pink shell in the outer; and when you tear the shell you can see white fleshy part, really sweet, tasty and aromatic. Don’t eat the entire lychee after removing the shell; it has brown seed in them, which is not edible. So you need to work a little to eat them. It was once considered precious in the past and was only available to Chinese emperors. There are lots of folk stories in China related to lychee.
Even though it is cultivated in northern part of India, I got to taste it only when I was in Japan. Once I tried, I got hooked on the taste. Lychee can be converted into various desserts especially puddings and ice cream. I have not tried though. I have seen lychee drinks in market, so I decided to make a drink with it. Thus this lemonade is born, the first when I added an entire lemon it turned out to be very tangy, so the next time used only ½ of lemon.
Take 12 lychee and ½ lemon, 2 cup water and 2 tablespoon sugar your lemonade is ready. It looks like snow white drink, taste great. Here go the recipes.
How I made, first grabbed following along with ice cubes.
Then comes the hard part, removing the shell of each lychee, like this and cutting in the center to remove its black seed.
Put lychee, sugar, lemon juice into the blender and blend it until everything mixed well. Add some ice cubes if you want.
Strain and enjoy the drink as much as you want.

Yes, lychees are expensive and for that matter all fruits too, which is such a sad thing. This looks inviting. I think what we get in a store are artificially flavoured and so the taste of real fruit is totally missing. Nothing like homemade!
