Delicious Mango agua fresca, fruity drink an excellent thirst quencher with touch of sweetness and lime.
Mango “King of fruit “is my favorite and weakness. Yes, I buy them whenever possible. Luckily here I can get them year around. Whereas in India it is seasonal usually during the summer months. This Mango Agua Fresca is a easy delight you can make with juicy, sweet mango.
What is Agua Fresca
Agua Fresca are light, refreshing drink popularized in Central America is a terrific thirst quencher on a hot summer day. Agua fresca (Spanish for "fresh water") uses more water than a smoothie would in order to flavor the water and not just purée the fruit.
Season of Agua fresca starts from the spring until early fall and can be found in every region of Mexico as well as it is an integral part of Tex-Mex Cuisine. They are not exactly smoothies because water and a small amount of sugar is added to the fruit pulp, and they are not just made from fruit, but also from seeds such as tamarindo or chia (a kind of sage grown by the Aztecs). An agua fresca can be made from flowers as well, such as the one called jamaica, made from hibiscus flowers. Here is my recipe of Hibiscus Agua fresca. There is horchata, made from rice, originating in Spain, quite possibly via the Moorish occupation.
These are neither sodas nor fruit juices, but subtly fruity flavored drinks that are balanced, light-bodied and not overly sweet.
How to make Mango Agua fresca?
Once you get ripe fruit, even overly ripe fruit is fine. As you are throwing it in the blender, after all, and you want the sweet rich notes of the fruit rather than its perfect appearance. Then blend and balance out the flavors with a little sweetener with some lime or lemon that is optional.
Depending on how ripe the fruit is, you may not need anything more at all except the cold, fresh water that gave this glorious drink its name.
You can adjust the amount of sugar too, if mango is sweet you need only a little bit of sugar or sweetener to make this refreshing drink.
