The Chinese broccoli / Chinese kale/Gai Lan is a slightly bitter leaf vegetable with thick, flat, glossy blue-green leaves and also with thick stems and a small number of tiny, almost vestigial flower heads similar to broccoli. It belongs to group of Brassica oleracea, the same species as that of broccoli and kale. Its flavor is very similar to that of broccoli, but a bit sweeter. It is rich in vitamin C, A, K, folate and fiber. It also contains the powerful anticancer phytonutrients, sulforaphane and indoles. Read more from here and here.
