Hi Swathi!
I am Mexican and living in India. I would love to make these! But I see you have Maseca in your picture and I have been looking all over for it with no success. Did you get your Maseca in India or did you bring it in from abroad? Any help on finding some (the only perfect flour to make the corn tortillas) would be fantastic... Keep posting 🙂
Swathi says
Hi Alina,
I am living in United states, May be you can find Indian version of corn flour Makki ka atta ( that is Indian corn flour) to make corn tortilla.
Swathi says
Koshy, You can try with Makki ki atta( Punjabi corn flour) I think it is available in India.

I am so far in getting around to blogs, I like, but I am here. I thank you for linking this to My Meatless Mondays.
I was talking to my husband about having tortillas, this week but I have to buy gluten free ones. I think, I can try this recipe and omit the whole wheat flour, you added and add some brown rice flour instead and see what happens.

Hi Swathi! You are so right about their being few places to get vegetarian meals that are good. Have you tried going to a Greek Restaurant and ordering Falafel? They are chickpea patties and very tasty with a yogurt sauce similar to Raita. I am wanting to try and make some corn tortillas so I will bookmark your page to try very soon. Thanks so much for sharing this on the hearth and soul hop! All the best! Alex

I agree with you that homemade tortillas are hard work, but worth every minute spent! Yours look amazing!
I've made it a few times and finally came up with a larger ratio of wheat flour that made it more manageable and it was easier to roll paper thin.

Felt that the roti-press/tortilla press might be the aspect. Loved your easy technique' plus the ziploc-kind of bag gives more stability than cling-wrap!

Swathi,
You did an excellent job with the corn tortillas. Next try with out the wheat flour you will like it. Here is a tutorial I have in my blog:
http://www.mexicoinmykitchen.com/2009/02/how-to-make-corn-tortillascomo-hacer.html
I made some today for dinner using the same yellow corn flour you have in the picture.
Funny thing, I took some Indian cooking classes with an Indian lady here in town. We she started making roti the only thing coming out of my mouth was: Just the same way me made wheat flour tortillas. I couldn't believe how many similarities we have. 🙂
Have a great week.
