What is Rum-based Cocktail?
During the 16th and 17th centuries, sugarcane farmers were producing a lot of molasses. At the time, it wasn’t considered as proper food, so it was given to slaves or dumped in the ocean. Luckily, someone realized that it could be fermented and distilled. As a result, Rum was born. Rum is thought to have originated in the Caribbean islands and was initially mixed with water as the Rum was typically bottled at very high proof. Rum was then mixed with coconut water to soften the spirit with the further adornment of fresh lime juice. Thus, simple cocktail is born.
Rum based cocktail is usually made with dark and light rum. Rum is deliciously sweet, lightly spiced, and generally pretty affordable. In fact, rum’s sweet and spicy balance makes it a perfect base for crafting cocktails. Usually famous cocktails are mainly fruit based such as Daiquiri, mule, Hurricane pina colada Mojito, Zombie, Mai Tai are a few.
I like fruit-based cocktails, I have few cocktails that used Rum, Bourbon, and Kahlua separately.
