Today is Halloween, and like every year, my kids are not trick or treating, but they are going to give treat candies to the trick or treaters who come to our house. In my daughter’s school there is Halloween party but it start around 5.P.M to 8.P.M. I can’t manage both of them, so I am not sending her to school party. On the baking news; I made this white bread yesterday. Usually I won’t make any white bread but one of my friends asked me to share the recipe of a simple white bread.
So friends here it is, this bread recipe is from King Arthur flour, it simple and a easy one, and it needs only all-purpose flour/maida, milk, butter , salt, yeast and little sugar. I used skim milk if you have full fat milk that will be good. Just mix everything and set aside for fermentation for 2 hours. If your kitchen is hot then it can be done in1 hour. Make sure the dough has doubled in volume. Then shape it into log and proof/ allow to double for 1 hour, or the dough should be double until an inch over the rim of loaf pan.
When you are at the end of proofing time, preheat oven to 350 ⁰F/177⁰C, and bake for 1 hour or until it is golden brown color. Don’t over bake it, will dry the bread. When it is comes out of the oven brush them with butter and remove from the pan and set aside of 30 minutes. Then slice and enjoy.
This bread makes excellent toast, try it will little jam, peanut butter or your favorite spread. You can also make excellent Panini with this bread. My Indian friends try this bread to make favorite sandwich made with tamarind and mint chutney stuffed with veggies or potato.
Give it a try you will disappoint. I can assure that.
Delicious white bread which makes excellent toast.
Ingredients
- 3 cups/375g King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour
- ½ cup/112g milk (skim, 1%, 2% or whole, your choice)
- ½ to ⅔ cup water, enough to make a soft, smooth dough
- 4 tablespoons (½ stick) melted butter or vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 ¼ teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoon instant yeast or 1 packet active dry yeast dissolved in 1 tablespoon warm water
Instructions
- In kitchen aid bowl, combine all of the ingredients
- and stir till the dough starts to leave the sides of the bowl.
- Knead it for 6 to 8 minutes, or until it begins to become smooth and supple. (You may also knead this dough in a food processor or in a bread machine set to the dough or manual cycle).
- Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl, cover the bowl, and allow the dough to rise till puffy though not necessarily doubled in bulk, about 2 hours. If your kitchen is warm then it will double in an hour.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured work surface, and spread it into rectangle
- then fold the sides,
- and then join the both ends in the center and shape it into an 8" log
- . Place the log in a lightly greased 8 ½" x 4 ½" loaf pan with seam side down.
- Cover the pan loosely with lightly greased plastic wrap, and allow the bread to rise for about 60 minutes, until it’s domed about 1" above the edge of the pan. A finger pressed into the dough should leave a mark that rebounds slowly.
- Bake the bread in a preheated 350°F oven for 30 to 35 minutes, until it’s light golden brown. Test it for doneness by removing it from the pan and thumping it on the bottom (it should sound hollow), or by measuring its interior temperature with an instant-read thermometer (it should register 190°F at the center of the loaf)
- Remove the bread from the oven, when it comes out the oven immediately brush with butter.
- and cool it on a wire rack before slicing. Store the bread in a plastic bag at room temperature.

Hi Valli,
You can use 2 teaspoon of Instant yeast, ( 6.5g) for this recipe. If you have active dry yeast use 7g.

You sure have been on a bread making craze Swathi! I just went through all of them and am so inspired to start baking. It's cooling off enough to run the oven so I'm thrilled to be able to start with 3 new recipes. Thanks!
