Delicious 7 layer dip recipe made with re-fried beans, tomato, guacamole, taco seasoned sour cream and two cheeses, monterey jack and cheddar cheese.
When you are looking for a delicious appetizer for your party during this time of the year or any game day treat, first thing comes into the mind is a 7-layer dip. Who can resist a bowl of 7-layer dip and tortilla chips?
It is easy to put together if you have Guacamole in hand. A seven-layer dip is an American appetizer based on ingredients typical of Tex-Mex cuisine.
What is 7 layer dip?
Usually this dip is made of Refried beans, Guacamole, sour cream, Pico de gallo, salsa roja, salsa verde or chopped tomatoes and grated cheese.
The cheese is mainly cheddar cheese, Monterey Jack cheese, queso asadero, queso chichuahua or a blend, black olives.
If you want, you can add chopped onion, ground beef, shredded lettuce or sliced jalapeno chilies for extra hotness.
If you make it with authentic Hispanic ingredients Tex-Mex Dip would have only 6 layers: frijoles refritos con jalapeños, guacamole, crema sazonada, pico de gallo, queso rallado and aceitunas negras picadas.
The dish is always served chilled. Originally served with corn chips, Tex-Mex Dip is now served most often with tortilla chips.
How I made 7 Layer dip
I used vegetarian refried beans. Then sour cream is flavored with taco seasoning. I didn’t used any salsa or pico de gallo and instead used only chopped tomato and green onions.
I didn’t use any Mexican blend of cheese but use only two cheese Monterey jack and cheddar cheese, and finally finished with olives and cilantro.
If you love spicy dip, go ahead and add some fresh or pickled Jalapenos along with olives.
You can make this ahead of your party as this dip is best when they are served chilled. You can also store them for 2-3 days in refrigerator.
This 7-layer dip is super easy and a beautiful dish to entertain with. As it is big colorful platter that I put it on, it's always a hit!!
Try to make this as it is time of entertaining friends and family.
