In eleven days and 9 hours Santa will leave his Santa village and going to visit us with lot of presents. Yes I am also just as excited like my little daughter and son. They have already planned for what they have to do for Santa when he comes through the chimney. My daughter told me to clean everything in front of fireplace and spruce up the Christmas tree with lot of ornaments and lights. Then only he drops the presents under the tree and she can open it during Christmas day. I told her I will do everything possible. Just like the Christmas tree and Santa, Christmas without traditional Christmas bread and cookies is hard to think for me.
I was born and brought in that part of India where Christmas is celebrated with great fun, mainly based on nativity rather than Santa and presents. During the December month there will be star light decorations to invite Christ. It is more like a celebration with midnight mass, and nativity scene. And of course delicious cakes and traditional recipes like Acchappam/ Indian rosette cookies, Kuzhalaappam/rice flour cannoli. But only after leaving India, did I see Santa, white Christmas and the tradition of presents.
I also started a tradition of making Christmas bread, cookies, cakes and drinks. I was able to finish the following Christmas bread; still I am in search of filling up the list.
Here is list of Christmas bread I tried:
Stollen, which is from Germany, mildly sweet bread with lot of candied fruits and stuffed with marzipan resembles the Jesus.
Swedish Limpa which is from Sweden, with traditional spices, rye flour, orange zest etc.
Norwegian Julekake mildly sweet bread made especially for Christmas table.
Joululimppu/ Finnish Christmas BreadFinnish Christmas bread /Joululimppu delicious bread with rye flour
Cookies
Acchappam/Indian style Rosette Cookies
Gingerbread man and women and snow flakes
Mexican wedding Cookies/snowball cookies
Dates Mascarpone Olive oil Anise cookies
